The Yellow and Red defender, who served as the captain in the 4-1 turnaround against the Salentini, made two significant records on the Saturday night at the Olimpico.
Gianluca Mancini, in the 4-1 given to Lecce on Saturday night, celebrated two significant milestones with the jersey of Roma. His 59th-minute header did not only give the Yellow and Reds the lead for the second time, in fact paving the way to the final flush, but it also allowed the center from Pontedera to achieve a total of 19 goals in his career in the capital, making him the third most prolific defender in the history of Roma after Panucci (31) and Aldair (20), reaching the lowest step of the podium alongside Kolarov and Nela. When Mancini scores a goal, the Giallorossi almost never lose: In clashes where the class of ’96 has recorded his name on the scoresheet, 14 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss have been achieved. Also, against the Salentians, Mancini wore the Roma captain’s armband for the 50th time: a tally that puts him in 23rd place in the unique ranking of players who’ve participated in the most matches with the armband, surpassing players like Dzeko (46) and Delvecchio (44), and closing in on Bruno Conti (58). The inaugural match as captain was a Roma-Bologna face-off on April 11, 2021, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the yellow-reds. The first goal scored wearing the armband, however, dates back to their commanding 7-0 home victory over Empoli in 2023 (Saturday’s was the second such occasion).
