Roma and Chris Smalling’s entourage continue to work to renew their contract, which expires on 30 June 2023. Today, Thursday, January 12, there was a meeting between the parties to carry out the talks on the extension of the contract.
The offer of Roma for renewal
Roma presented Chris Smalling’s prosecutor with an offer – while she was working in Portugal – to extend the contract. It is a proposal to renew for two years at lower figures than the current ones but that, with important bonuses (especially related to attendance) could equalize the figure currently perceived by the defender.
In today’s meeting, Chris Smalling’s agent made different demands: either a three-year contract or a two-year contract, but at higher figures than those proposed. Rome, however, for the moment, is not raising. Meanwhile, the will of Chris Smalling, confirmed by the agent in today’s meeting, would be to continue to Roma. There are therefore conditions to renew, even if the Giallorossi offer is not yet approved.
The location of Smalling
Chris Smalling would like to stay at Roma. The position of the Englishman has been confirmed by agents in Tiago Pinto. In addition, the former Manchester United would have the unilateral opportunity to renew – by 31 May – the contract for another season at the figures currently received. A situation similar to that of Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s contract last summer.
The defender could therefore also decide to evaluate all the offers that will arrive and then in the case also extend with Roma at the end of May at the same current figures for another season. That is why the Giallorossi are working on a two-year renewal for the defender.
